You are invited to join for a deep dive into my favorite movement practice, the “Sea Creature Dance” (SCD). The SCD is accessible for all bodies-it’s an open-ended practice ‘template’ that you might call:
a movement-sounding-breath meditation
a feel-good somatic practice
a listening-sensing-expressing practice
an intuitive/exploratory warm-up/warm-down
contact improvisation with the floor/environment
Depending on what your body needs in the moment, the SCD can range anywhere from an invisible/micro internal dance to a macro/playful movement exploration and anywhere in between. An intention of the SCD is to support nervous system resilience and regulation/mental health, widening what brings us pleasure- to help us feel better (or good enough) in the moment. This is foundational in the the toolkit + skillset to move well and take care of this amazing miracle we call a body, to be able to sense and then give ourselves what we need in any moment, cultivating the ability to shift/modulate our states. We will layer in techniques to support strength/mobility/elasticity development & maintenance as well.
I’ll be giving you thorough notes on how to deepen your relationship with this practice, and an invitation to join a (totally free) 30/30 Sea Creature Dance ‘challenge’ or experiment- practicing for approx 30 mins a day for 30 days.
We will be exploring a partnering version of the SCD in the in person version the week before- I will be happy to share that material at the end of this online session.
What to prepare: some floor space where you can move in 360 degrees is ideal. This whole practice can also be done in bed 🙂
We will be playing with sounding/vocalization with movement- you may want some white noise or ambient background music and to tell housemates you will be doing some vocal exercises.
Cost: $50 (Sliding Scale $20-100)

Don’t let $$ hold you back- no on turned away for lack of funds.
Who’s it for? No pre-reqs. This workshop is for folx who want to expand/deepen their nervous system restorative/somatic movement practice. The content is intentionally designed for all bodies/abilities/energy levels- to both benefit “beginners” and stimulate more advanced practitioners. This is my ongoing best effort to create a trauma-aware container-you won’t be put on the spot for anything, everything is an invitation, always a wide variety of options to engage with.
About the Instructor:
My name is David Gallina (they/he). I’ve been teaching for 10+ years, and am committed to improving people’s quality of life through the practice of movement, mobility, dance/play therapy, somatics, and functional neurology in a trauma-informed way that is inclusive and accessible to all bodies. I’ve led workshops at the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation, Harvard Medical School, UCSF Medical School, and Bastyr University in Seattle. I have a B.S. in Human Biology and Anatomy. I’ve studied extensively with Movement Culture and numerous movement/dance modalities, and am currently fascinated with the role of somatics and movement in trauma recovery. I love contact improvisation, freeform dance, practice qi gong, circus arts, Gaga dance, Continuum, and weaving nervous system education and Eastern nondual wisdom traditions into movement practice.
