Weekly Mixed Movement Arts Classes (All Levels)

In-person Mixed Movement Arts classes will be held weekly at Ape Co Movement School in Boulder, CO. Classes are on Tuesdays from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. MST and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. MST. Registration is included with ApeCo membership or $10 drop in. Recommended to bring: long sleeves and pants, kneepads optional.

Perhaps the 2 most foundational orientations of a healthy movement/dance practice:

  1. Feeling good (enough) in our bodies- developing the toolkit + skillset to move well and take care of this miracle we call a body, to be able to sense and then give ourselves what we need in any moment, cultivating the ability to shift/modulate our states.

  2. Playing/moving well with other humans- developing listening and nonverbal communication capacity, coregulation through play-based scenarios, enjoying collaborative creative movement expression.

Drawing from a diverse set of inspirations (see bio below), these classes are for folx who want to have fun expanding/deepening their movement intelligence, improvisation optionality, and nervous system restorative practices, both solo and with a partner/group.

The classes are intentionally designed for all bodies/abilities/energy levels- to both benefit “beginners” and stimulate advanced practitioners. This is my ongoing best effort to create a trauma-aware container-you won’t be put on the spot for anything, everything is an invitation, always a wide variety of options to engage with. You get to ‘choose your own adventure’ in each class-this can range from a very chill experience to a more vigorous practice, and anywhere in between. Be curious, listen to your body, enjoy.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

My name is David Gallina (they/he).  I’ve been teaching for 10+ years, and am committed to improving people’s quality of life through the practice of movement, mobility, dance/play therapy, somatics, and functional neurology in a trauma-informed way that is inclusive and accessible to all bodies.

I’ve studied extensively with Movement Culture and numerous movement/dance modalities- I love contact improvisation, freeform dance/authentic movement, practice qi gong, circus arts, Gaga dance, Continuum, and weaving somatics, nervous system education, and wisdom traditions into movement practice.
