How Fascial Maneuvers Create Change on 3 Levels: Physical, Biochemical, and Energetic

Hey all — Dae Gallina from Mixed Movement Arts here.

I’ve been teaching movement for 15 years, have traveled the world studying & practicing, have a degree in human biology & anatomy, studied neurology & many healing modalities and Human Garage’s Fascial Maneuvers system and philosophy might be THE best thing I’ve ever come across… at least tied for first place.

So I want to break down how and why Human Garage Fascial Maneuvers actually work to the best of my current, ever-evolving understanding.

The Fascial Maneuvers work on the physical, chemical, and energetic/electric levels of the body, with a 15 minute Fascial Maneuver session showing 75-90% reduction in stress biomarkers. But before we talk about how the Fascial Maneuvers work, and let’s first take a step back and make sure we’re on the same page as to WHAT the fascia is and its relationship to the the whole body.

What is the Fascia?

Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps and permeates INSIDE every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ — down to the CELLULAR LEVEL. It’s a continuous unbroken web weaving your body together. Previously dismissed as “packing material,” it’s now recognized as one of the body’s most intelligent systems — sensing, adapting, and transmitting information faster than nerves alone.

Fascia isn’t static — it’s alive. It contracts, conducts, and communicates.

It’s densely innervated with sensory nerves—5x more than muscles— making it one of the body’s main organs of perception.

It holds memory of movement and emotion, and responds to how you breathe, think, and feel.

The Fascia is a liquid crystalline network, meaning it’s both fluid and ordered, capable of storing

and transmitting energy and information like a biological fiber-optic system.

The fascia is a biotensegrity system, which means it maintains structural integrity not through rigid bones or isolated parts, but through a continuous balance of tension and compression — where every cell, fiber, and tissue distributes force across the whole body, allowing it to be both incredibly strong, stable, AND fluid at the same time.

Under Pressure

Human Garage is the only place I’ve ever heard the body described as a pressurized system. Right now, atmospheric pressure is pushing on your body with about 14.7 pounds per square inch at sea level — slightly less at higher elevations. The only reason we don’t collapse under that force is because there’s an equal and opposite pressure pushing out from inside the body — from your fluids, fascia, and breath mechanics.

By combining specific movements, postures, and strategic breathing patterns to inflate the torso like a balloon, this creates a unique combination of compressive, torsional, and shear forces throughout the fascial web. These forces help tissues rehydrate, unstick, and reorganize— restoring the body’s natural elasticity, aligning the body’s structure, and improving circulation of bodily fluids.

Level 1: PHYSICAL — “Structure Rules Function”

Because the fascia is a continuous web— it connects every cell in the body—

Restriction in one area creates tension in the whole fascial web.

Fascia gets these restrictions due to lack of movement, dehydration, chronic stress/trauma/emotion, injuries, toxins, and inflammation. These lead to tissue “densifications” — it becomes sticky, dry, and less communicative.

And when we move, breathe, and regulate our nervous systems—take the body out of survival mode that contracts us, we can reorganize that web.

So these fascial maneuvers — through counter-rotation (or counter-spiral, because spiral= rotation + length), creating pressure with coordinated breath —creates movement through the fascial matrix that rehydrate it, unwind old holding patterns, and restore glide.

This is why after even one session, people report: more mobility, less pain and tension, better posture and balance, and a sense of lightness and internal space

Fascial restrictions can lead decreased circulation, which limits oxygen and nutrients into different tissues. The movement + the breath helps nourish the organs, many of which require movement for circulation. Which brings us to the chemical layer.

Level 2 CHEMICAL — The Biochemical Reset

Movement and breath change our biochemistry, improving our neurotransmitters and hormones.

There is a decrease in cortisol, epinephrine (aka adrenaline), and inflammatory markers.

Fascial Maneuvers elevate the “DOSE” molecules

Dopamine for motivation,

Oxytocin for connection and safety,

Serotonin for mood and satisfaction,

and Endorphins for natural pleasure and pain relief.

The body releases nitric oxide, which acts as a natural muscle relaxer, anti-inflammatory, and circulation enhancer

Fascial maneuvers activate your endocannabinoid system — producing natural anandamide, the “bliss molecule.”

Many people report some amount of euphoria after practicing, feeling more calm, present, and alive.

Your body is the best pharmacy if you know how to use it. The fascial maneuvers are a potent method to access the good stuff.

Level 3 ELECTRIC / ENERGETIC — Coherence & Communication

We’ve talked about the fascia as a liquid crystalline matrix that conducts charge, light, and sound.

When you apply mechanical forces, the fascia generates piezoelectric currents — meaning your movement literally produces electricity. This charge helps cells communicate, repair, and maintain coherence.

In other words, movement literally charges your body’s internal circuitry and reawakens the flow of life through your tissues.

Many researchers are associating the acupuncture meridian system with fascial planes, so the fascial maneuvers may be opening up the acupuncture channels.

As the fascial web relaxes, the body shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic, resulting in better tissue healing and repair.

Dr. Joe Dispenza talks about developing brain coherence and heart coherence, and I want people to also think about whole body coherence through healthy fascia.

Closing

As much as we know about biology, I believe we are just scratching the surface with our understanding of the incredible awe-inspiring complexity of this miracle we call a human body.

The fascial maneuvers are working on the physical, biochemical, and energetic/electric levels of the body, impacting every single cell of the organism.

While we can take our best guesses at the scientific mechanism, I want to also say that I’d bet my life there are many more mechanisms we don’t understand yet. We don’t need to know how the smartphone works in order to use it. The same thing goes for our body. You can enjoy it, but don’t get to caught up on the science— acknowledge that our understanding is limited.

Fascial Maneuvers are full-body system language that creates the conditions for healing to happen.

Human Garage is growing rapidly for a reason: the Fascial Maneuvers are incredibly effective.

Thank you to the whole team for bringing this work into the world. I’m here to support that mission!

All the words in the world won’t hold a candle to experience, so I invite you to find out for yourself and give the Fascial Maneuvers a try.

The 15 minute Stress Reset is a great place to start. Human Garage has a big YouTube page and a “Pay What Feels Right” model for some of their introductory programs.

The discovery of Fascial Maneuvers has led me to rewriting the foundations of Mixed Movement Arts. I have opened up a Skool Community designed to transform not only the quality of your movement, but also how you look, feel, and heal. Fascial Maneuvers integrate perfectly with the body care, somatics, and nervous system-centered movement I’ve been teaching for years.

My advice: give it a try for 5-7 days for 15-30 minutes per day. The benefits add up, continue to deepen & culminate the more you practice. You need to get past the initial threshold of learning the basic cues–the lefts and rights, simple breathing patterns, and principles–so you can focus on sensations and give the body time to adapt and integrate.

Check out the Mixed Movement Arts Skool Community here.

I’ve added a bunch to our YouTube page.

Reach out to info@mixedmovementarts.com with any questions or comments!

Hope to move with you soon!

Don’t take my word for it. Here’s what people are saying after only 1-2 weeks of people practicing Fascial Maneuvers in my program:

“It’s 6 days in for me and I’m already feeling a massive difference in my stress levels.”

“I’m feeling 1000% better since starting a week ago.”

“My entire body feels more free. My walking has improved, knee pain has reduced, and my posture feels elongated.”

“I’m experiencing a deeper level of self-compassion. It feels like life force is flowing again.”

“I can honestly say my body has never responded as profoundly as it has in just 6 days.”

“I’m less tense, more grounded, and more regulated than I’ve been in years.”

“My energy is up, my focus is better, and my anxiety is dropping fast.”

“I am noticing just so much less tension. It’s spilling over to work where I’m able to have a level of grounding and relaxation that I couldn’t have dreamed of.”

“I am just flabbergasted by how calming they are and how they are impacting the pain I carry in my body.”
